OBJECTIVES

After successful completion of this course, attendees should be able to:

  • Review significant advances in therapeutic options particularly biologics and
    immunomodulators in the treatment of IBD
  • Discuss emerging genomic research developments as related to the pathophysiology of IBD
  • Understand evolving patient management and treatment strategies for intestinal and extraintestinal complications in IBD
  • Review immunological and microbial aspects relevant to the pathology of IBD
  • Describe appropriate strategy options for the management of pediatric and adolescent patients with IBD
  • Recommend disease management options based on current understanding of case presentations from national IBD thought leaders
  • Discuss advantages and disadvantages of current pharmacological therapies for IBD
  • Identify the most appropriate and effective surgical techniques in the treatment of IBD
  • Review clinical challenges encountered by clinicians including the simple dichotomy between ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease toward enhancement of overall patient outcomes
