OBJECTIVES
After successful completion of this course, attendees should be able to:
- Review significant advances in therapeutic options particularly biologics and
immunomodulators in the treatment of IBD
- Discuss emerging genomic research developments as related to the pathophysiology of IBD
- Understand evolving patient management and treatment strategies for intestinal and extraintestinal complications in IBD
- Review immunological and microbial aspects relevant to the pathology of IBD
- Describe appropriate strategy options for the management of pediatric and adolescent patients with IBD
- Recommend disease management options based on current understanding of case presentations from national IBD thought leaders
- Discuss advantages and disadvantages of current pharmacological therapies for IBD
- Identify the most appropriate and effective surgical techniques in the treatment of IBD
- Review clinical challenges encountered by clinicians including the simple dichotomy between ulcerative colitis and Crohns disease toward enhancement of overall patient outcomes
